Kingsway Youth Shelter Sketches/Ideas for Luton Borough Council

Wey & Arun Canal Regeneration @ Tannery Basin

The Wey & Arun Trust asked students at Kingston to create a regeneration scheme for a section of the canal at Tannery Basin. In response to the local surroundings and history of the area I came up with a scheme that tackles the issue of flooding on site and the reintroduction of a farmers market that was present at this location 100 years ago. Addressing the concept of a temporal landscape I have proposed the use of innovative materials that are constructed using plant material, seeds and pollen so that over time a new landscape can be created without the need to remove any waste materials from site, they can simply be buried.

Purfleet Riverside Regeneration

A neglected piece of space located along the southern point of the Mardyke River in Purfleets that acts as not only a boundary between Rainham and Purfleet but Havering and Thurrock as well. It is also evident that the site acts as a social and economic divide.

As with many industrial towns Purfleet suffers from a lack of investment and in particular a lack of high quality public open space. However Purfleet is part of the governments Sustainable Communities Agenda and they predict that the towns population will nearly triple in size by 2021.

My proposal reflects on information provided by Thurrocks Thames Gateway Development consultant Steve Plumb, Thurrocks Biodiversity Action Plan, the history of the area and my own observations and research.

The proposal looks at the concepts of play, growth and community.

Experimenting with lighting

These models are of a section of reference park and are only 10cm by 10cm. I wanted to experiment with artificial lighting and the use of small scale figures to create an impression of "being" in the model.

Richmond Park Mycotecture

This is the final sheet and is an amalgamation of the research and experimentation of the fungus within Richmond Park. The link below directs you to a Google map and identifies some of the species that I identified and shows where they were discovered.

TRAJECTORY.

University is fast approaching its end and its time to start organising my self and my work in a positive way that portrays myself as the valuable asset that I am. With my initial website now up and running I can now advertise this space and it can be easily viewed by employers. Advertising this website on all e-mails and documents could be a valuable thing to do as it increases the potential of people and potential employers visiting my site and seeing my work.
The website will be the main way of promoting my portfolio but there are plenty of alternative ways to advertise my work

One of the most obvious forms of this is a business card, which I am a bit wary of as it reminds me of the 80's and cheap suits! But I guess they have their benefits of providing all the information in a compact format and if designed in a unique and innovative way could work well. I started doing some research into unique business cards and found this website which had a number of beautiful designs on it.

http://creativebits.org/cool_business_card_designs

here are some of my favourite designs:

I really like this design as it would work really well with my projects. its a small manila envelope containing seeds so you get the business card and a freebie! Mine could include seeds for edible plants (herbs/beans/tomatoes etc) the actually envelope could even be recyclable.

Cress hair! This business card also grows. For landscape architets Tur & Partner, when watered the seeds grow throught the plan to look like little trees
I also really like this design. the image is of the author and when poped out it stands upright, would work really well when displayed on a desk or table.

Quick examples of how my business card could look, i think it would work much better printed on a a recycled brown envelope giving it a more rustic/rural feel.
