TRAJECTORY.

University is fast approaching its end and its time to start organising my self and my work in a positive way that portrays myself as the valuable asset that I am. With my initial website now up and running I can now advertise this space and it can be easily viewed by employers. Advertising this website on all e-mails and documents could be a valuable thing to do as it increases the potential of people and potential employers visiting my site and seeing my work.
The website will be the main way of promoting my portfolio but there are plenty of alternative ways to advertise my work

One of the most obvious forms of this is a business card, which I am a bit wary of as it reminds me of the 80's and cheap suits! But I guess they have their benefits of providing all the information in a compact format and if designed in a unique and innovative way could work well. I started doing some research into unique business cards and found this website which had a number of beautiful designs on it.

here are some of my favourite designs:

I really like this design as it would work really well with my projects. its a small manila envelope containing seeds so you get the business card and a freebie! Mine could include seeds for edible plants (herbs/beans/tomatoes etc) the actually envelope could even be recyclable.

Cress hair! This business card also grows. For landscape architets Tur & Partner, when watered the seeds grow throught the plan to look like little trees
I also really like this design. the image is of the author and when poped out it stands upright, would work really well when displayed on a desk or table.

Quick examples of how my business card could look, i think it would work much better printed on a a recycled brown envelope giving it a more rustic/rural feel.

TRAJECTORY CONT.........

Got hold of this image of how to fold you own envelope (business card idea) the image is really nice and got me thinking about displaying my work for the degree show. I don't really like displaying my work on a computer screen, you seem to lose something from it, I may use it for some thing but the majority of my work will be printed out in some form. i was thinking about some sort of book/journal that has some pages that could fold out to reveal large drawings/images.

For the next brief of the focus week module we were asked to create a website to showcase our work as a sort of online portfolia available to the world.. The website creater I used is moonfruit.com as the university has account with them and it is reasonably easy to set up and get going with.

The site has a number of of default templates that can be used to create the site. After flicking through a couple i decided that they weren't for me, they just looked too generic and had no personality. So, I decided on the simplest template I could find and decided to create my own using that a starting point (we are designers after all!)

As I am becoming quite fluent with photoshop I decided to use this to create the images for the site. This ended up being a sample of designs that I have created throughout the year. The first page I created was for the home page of the site this can be seen below.

When I started creating the site I was sitting at a desk with sketchbooks, books, pens, pencils and rulers everywhere and this has how its been for the past year! So I wanted to represent this in my website.

After messing around with this image I decided to change it slightly to the one below. I felt this was more minimalist and worked well with a white background and the cool greys that I have used elsewhere in the site.

FINAL FRONT PAGE.

MASTER PAGE. (appears as a template for all pages)

CONTACT DETAILS PAGE.

I feel that I have made a good start
and now have a place for employers to view my work and be able to get in contact with me. Over the next few months I will buy my own domain name and set up a flash website.
